Students can qualify for a field trip where they will run their "Final Mile" with students from all over CT.

Musical Events

Each year McAlister Intermediate School students perform in two musical concerts. Our Winter Concert showcases the choral talents of our third, fourth and fifth graders as well as the talents of our fifth grade band students. Our Spring Concert showcases our fourth graders’ choral talents and their newfound skill playing the recorder. During the Spring Concert, our fifth graders show us how much they have learned this year in both band and chorus.

For more information about the Music Program at McAlister, please visit our Music Department’s website at www.suffieldmusic.org.

Nutmeg Book Awards

Every spring, 100’s of students read Nutmeg nominated books and vote on their favorite in accordance with Nutmeg Book Awards.

This is a great opportunity for all students to participate in wide reading of quality student literature.

Open Houses and Curriculum Nights

These nights allow families and students to visit our school and celebrate children’s’ work. It also lets them explore the curricular areas and gather our school community together to celebrate our children’s’ learning experiences!

We have a truly AMAZING group of dedicated volunteers to provide enrichment to our curriculum in the form of:

Performances, theatrical learning experiences, author visits, book fairs and grade level traditions.

The PTO also organizes and provides funding for many other events making our school the special place it is!

Student Art Showcase

Students work hard alongside our Art teacher to create memorable and professional quality artwork.

Their artwork is showcased in our school hallways, bulletin boards and main office and is rotated throughout the year! It is like having an art show all year long!

Student Council

Grade 5 students participate in a 3 day Leadership Training. They then apply to become a member of the Student Council. Out of all the applications, 15 are chosen for Council.

SC members facilitate programs such as:

  • Toys for Tots
  • Run altruistic food and monetary collection drives to help needy families in the community and in the country
  • Run school spirit events within McAlister

Unified Sports

Unified Sports is a registered program of Special Olympics that combines athletes with and without disabilities. At the elementary level, students engage in non-competitive athletic activities designed to develop skills in a variety of sports. This program helps build confidence and important social skills while also helping students realize that everyone is more alike than different and encourages students to be accepting of others.

Winter Intramural Sports

This before school program runs from December through February and focuses on cooperative games and activities for each grade level. It is a great way to start off the day with your friends playing some of your favorite games.
